Can discus spawn when they are 3 1/2 years old?

Postby Walter Soestbergen » Sat Jan 31, 2004 12:22 pm

Depending upon the condition they are in, and how healthy they are they should be able to still spawn. Usually the number of fry and the number of eggs declines relative to the prior numbers produced by the fish when it was younger. Most discus will still spawn and produce fry at 5 years of age but the overall numbers of fry are much lower than when the same fish was 1 and 2 years old ( sexual maturity varies to "strain / type" inside the 1 - 2 years time frame ).
I'm myself, there are already enough others.
