3 weeks old RSG discus fry

Postby Adrian Dragos » Thu Dec 30, 2010 3:55 pm

This is my first post on this forum but i keep discus for a long time. Anyways this being the breeding section my story goes like this.
I bought the breeding pair of wild RSG discus from Russell Watson and knowing that the parents dont really produce mucus for the fry i decided to grow them artificially. The pair are in a 650L SA tank with "altums", rummynose tetras, crydoras sterbai and few plecos. So far the story goes like this:

RSG 1st spawn
PH - 5-5.5
Kh/Gh - 2
Temp - 29 C

15/10/2010 - Eggs
18/10/2010 - 80 Fry
22/10/2010 - 1st feed with boiled egg yolk + liquifry + 1 tablet of spirulina mix
24/10/2010 - Added microworms to the bowl + mix
25/10/2010 - Mix + microworms + baby brimeshrimp
Forgot to turn the spongefilter back on, all fry died!!!!

RSG 2nd spawn
25/10/2010 - Eggs
27/10/2010 - Eggs gone, eaten?

RSG 3rd spawn
05/11/2010 - Eggs
All the eggs are white/infertile

RSG 4th spawn
27/11/2010 - Eggs
30/11/2010 - Fry
01/12/2010 - Fry moved to breeding box
04/12/2010 - 1st feed with egg yolk powder
09/12/2010 - Added microworms in the breeder
10/12/2010 - Egg yolk, microworms and baby brineshrimp
11/12/2010 - No more egg yolk powder on day time, night time only
14/12/2010 - Stopped egg yolk powder feed
19/12/2010 - No more BBS, changed to frozen Cyclops + micron food
And now they look like this

05/01/2011 - Today i moved the fry, 30 of them, into a little fish tank of 20L but i only filled half of it with water from the big tank until they grow a little bigger, they were in a 2L breeding tank until now and i added 4 cory similis fry as cleanning crew. Every week i will up the volume of the water in the tank by 1L and i will do wc 3 times per day of 1L each, hoovering any food left, just before feeding again fresh food
